Officials from the Tallmadge City School District opened the doors of its aging facilities to the public Sept. 21 so community members could see first-hand why the district is fielding a 3.9-mill academic bond issue and a 0.9-mill athletic bond issue on the Nov. 8 General Election ballot. This video focuses on the needs at Munroe Elementary School which was built in 1962.

The district has developed a master plan which features the construction of a new elementary school to house grades prekindergarten through five and a new middle school to house grades six through eight onto a single campus where the current middle school sits. That improvement is estimated at $45 million, according to the district's Chief Operating Officer Steve Wood. About $14 million of the $45 million cost would be borne by the state, he said.

The school district hopes to raise its share of the expense through the passage of bond issues.
