Akron -- Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh announced Oct. 4 that a Summit County jury found Patrick Renaud, 49, of Tallmadge, guilty of raping a 12-year-old girl.

Jurors found Renaud guilty of the following charges: two counts of rape, first-degree felonies; two counts of sexual battery, third-degree felonies; and five counts of gross sexual imposition, third-degree felonies.

During the time period from March 2013 to early December 2013, Renaud molested the 12-year-old victim. Twinsburg Police Department opened the investigation when the victim's mother came forward after receiving allegations via text messaging from her daughter. During the trial, Avery II, the Summit County Prosecutor's Office facility dog, sat with the victim in between court appearances.

The Summit County Prosecutor's Office received Avery II in August of 2013 from Canine Companions for Independence. Avery is a highly trained five-year-old Labrador/Retriever mix facility dog, whose primary job is providing emotional support to adults with developmental disabilities and children who are victims of crime. Since 2013, Avery II has been involved in over 100 cases in Summit County.

Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Christine Croce is scheduled to sentence Renaud at 9 a.m. Oct. 26. Renaud faces a sentence of life in prison.
