TALLMADGE -- Information, giveaways and raffle prizes will be available at the 2017 Community Expo April 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tallmadge Recreation Center, 46 N. Munroe Road. The event is a joint effort of the Tallmadge Chamber of Commerce, city of Tallmadge and Tallmadge City Schools. Admission is free.

Terry Bumpas, executive director of the Tallmadge Chamber of Commerce, says the expo will feature local businesses, non-profit clubs and organization exhibitors showcasing information about the services they offer.

As of March 22, she reported all available exhibitor space -- 90 spots -- had been sold. Park Ford is the 2017 Expo sponsor. Cheryl Ray of PNC Bank and Carol Martin of Carol Martin Salon & Spa are the Chamber members co-chairing the event.

"We are expecting over 3,000 attendees," said Bumpas. This is the 10th year for the expo, which is staged at the Rec Center every other year. One highlight of the event will be the return of The Taste of Tallmadge as a fundraiser for Tallmadge Relay For Life. Local restaurants will serve samples of their signature specialities for donations from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participating establishments will include Sammie's Bar & Grill, El Tren Mexican Bar & Grill, Danny Boys Pizza, Beef 'O'Brady's, TLC Catering and S&M BBQ.

At the adjacent Tallmadge High School, Park Ford will have a Drive 4UR School event -- the dealership will donate $20 to the high school for each test drive of one of its vehicles up to $3,000.

For those in need of shredding large amounts of paper, Weaver-SecurShred will have a truck in the parking lot of the high school for paper drop-off. The younger set will enjoy a variety of children's activities, including a designated play area. Information also will be available on registering for CodeRED, the free system the city of Tallmadge uses to notify its residents of emergency situations and to disseminate community alerts. Attendees also are encouraged to patronize the book sale, donate blood at the blood mobile, and check out the vehicles in the Auto Showcase. Parents will have the option to register their children's fingerprints and photo identification for a child screening database called GASP.

Raffle prizes will include a Garmin sports tracker, iPad Mini, Holy Stone HS170 Predator Mini RC Helicopter Drone, Sharp 55-inch 4K UHD smart TV, and a Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 instant camera and accessories.
