As is customary, the annual Tallmadge Middle School Students vs. Staff basketball game was held the last day before Spring Break — March 24. The crowd roared while staff and students raced up and down the court to dominate the opposing team. The game came to an exciting end with the teachers besting the students 33-31. Best of all the event raised over $1,000 for Haven of Rest Ministries in Akron.
In February, eighth-grade Sea Dogs team members began discussing various activities to organize to raise money for Haven of Rest.
Students were separated into committees, such as ticket sales, photographers, posters, announcements, Power Point, celebration, invitations and fundraising.
The fundraising committee generated ideas for raising funds, including holding a raffle to play on the student team, coach the teacher or student teams, basketball shooting contest during halftime and their favorite — pushing a whipped cream pie in the face of a teacher.
The poster committee designed colorful posters advertising the events and posted them all around the building.
The ticket sales committee motivated students to buy tickets for these events during lunches. The invitation committee prepared invitations to ensure our administrators were in attendance. The announcement committee reminded students of these opportunities during morning meeting and lunch.
The photographers were hard at work capturing all this exciting work as it happened. The Power Point committee created slides showcasing the events to be played at a celebration in May, when everyone’s hard work will be recognized.
Sea Dogs teachers Justin Montello, Audrey Cunert, Tammy Walker and Kelly Knotts say they are proud of the Sea Dogs team members for all of their efforts and hard work.
