Ash Wednesday service

First Congregational Church will offer an Ash Wednesday service Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. which will include a message offered by the Rev. Dr. John Schluep, along with communion and the imposition of ashes.

Lenten Neighborhood

Discussion groups

Feb. 21, Ash Wednesday, marks the beginning of Lent. During the six weeks of Lent, First Congregational Church will provide a forum for sharing thoughts about Phillip Yancy's book, "What's So Amazing about Grace?" in neighborhood discussion groups. Those interested in joining a discussion group or who would like more information are asked to call the church office at 330-633-4931 or visit the Web site www.fcctallmadge.org.

Heritage Builders

Heritage Builders meet Wednesdays through March 21. Soup and sandwiches will be served at 5:30 p.m. for a $2 donation. A youth bell choir, middle school fellowship and adult programming will follow, beginning at 6:15.

Three adult activities will be offered this spring. The Rev. Dr. John Schluep will conduct a class examining the New Testament; Cherie Wade will facilitate Club 20, a weight loss program; and the Rev. David Parker will lead discussion on the book of Job, Jonah and Obadiah. Child care is offered for evening classes.

First Congregational Church is located at 85 Heritage Drive.

Gospel Songfest set for Feb. 19

A Bicentennial Gospel Songfest has been planned for 7 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Northwest Avenue Church of Christ, 737 Northwest Ave.

Churches participating in the event are Northwest Avenue Church of Christ, Faith Bible Fellowship, Tallmadge Alliance, Tallmadge United Methodist Church, First Congregational Church of Tallmadge and First Apostolic Church of Tallmadge.

Eucharistic devotions

Annual Solemn Eucharistic Devotions have been set for Feb. 18 through 20, beginning with an Exalt Service (Festival of Praise) Feb. 18 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Adoration hours are Sunday evening from 9 p.m. to midnight; Feb. 19 from 6 a.m. to midnight; and Feb. 20 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Vesper services will be scheduled Mondays from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and Tuesday evenings from 6 to 6:30 p.m. with a guest speaker. Following the solemn closing on Tuesday, all attendees are invited to a free spaghetti dinner in the Parish Life Center.

Lenten services

Ashes will be distributed on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 21 during the following Masses: 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the church, and 1 p.m. at Greenview Inn, 4000 Massillon Road. Also, Stations-of-the-Cross devotions have been scheduled at the church at 7 p.m. Fridays throughout Lent.

Vespers

Vesper services have been set for 8:10 p.m. during Lent on Sundays, Feb. 25 through March 25.

Stations of the Cross

Stations of the Cross devotions have been scheduled at the church Fridays after the 8:30 a.m. Mass and at 7 p.m. throughout Lent. A program of sacred music precedes the devotions at 6:45 p.m. Stations of the Cross will take place at 2 p.m. Good Friday and will be dramatized by the Life Teens.

Queen of Heaven Church is located at 1800 Steese Road in Green.

Methodist Men to host Sweetheart Brunch

The United Methodist Men of Tallmadge United Methodist Church will host its 19th annual Sweetheart Brunch today following a combined worship service at 9:30 a.m.

All girls and women of the church are invited. Entertainment will include music and feature the More Men Tab 'n Apple Choir.

Activities this week at the church:

Today -- Kids Club and junior high youth, 4 p.m.; Bible study with pastor, 4:15 p.m.; The Rock worship service for senior youth, 5:30 p.m.; Stephen Ministers, 6 p.m.

Monday -- Quilters, 6 p.m.; Alpha group, 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday -- Bible Study on Proverbs 10-14, 7 p.m.

Wednesday -- Chancel Choir, 7 p.m.

Thursday -- United Methodist Men's devotions and work group, 8 a.m.; Dorcas Circle, 9 a.m.; adult games night and Worship Team, 7 p.m.; On-Line Ringers, 7:15 p.m.

Feb. 18 -- Sunbeams and Sonshine Singers children's choirs, 10:20 a.m.; Kids Club with family dinner and Pinewood Derby, 4 p.m. Bible study with pastor, 4:15 p.m.; senior high youth, 6 p.m.

Church of the Nazarene to host Peace University

Tallmadge Church of the Nazarene will host Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. beginning Feb. 26 Ramsey is a personal money management expert, national radio personality, and author of The New York Times best-sellers "The Total Money Makeover," "Financial Peace" and "More Than Enough."

Financial Peace University is a 13-week program designed to empower and teach participants how to make the right money decisions to achieve their financial goals and God's plan for their life. The course includes practical lessons on eliminating debt, building wealth, giving like never before and more.

Two orientation and information opportunities have been scheduled at the church. The first will be Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. and the second will be Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. Contact the Rev.
