The Lucky Learners 4-H Club ended another successful year with their recent designation as a Summit County Honor Club. To earn this distinction, clubs must meet certain criteria.
For example, the Lucky Learners do a large number of service projects throughout the year. Among these were: packing boxes for Good Neighbors, making valentines for retired veterans, collecting food for Harvest for Hunger, picking up trash with Keep Akron Beautiful, and planting a flower bed at the Summit County Fair. They recently sent care packages to soldiers in Iraq and rang bells for the Salvation Army.
Educational experiences found the club touring Acme Freshmart in Tallmadge, listening to a speaker on fire safety, and having monthly health and safety talks and demonstrations on 4-H projects done by members.
At the Summit County Fair this July, you could have seen their 1st place 4-H booth. At their group demonstration, "This is a 4-H Meeting", all the members of the club showed those watching what it would be like to attend a 4-H meeting. Projects were completed by all members of the club, and many qualified to go on to state fair competition. Congratulations, Lucky Learners!
4-H is for young people from ages 5 to 19 as of January 1. If you are interested in joining a 4-H club, contact the Summit County 4-H office at (330)928-4769.
