St. Patrick's Day Youth Dance rescheduled
The "St. Patrick's Day Community Youth Dance" originally scheduled for March 7 but was canceled due to a winter snowstorm has been rescheduled for April 11. The event, for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade residents of Tallmadge, will run from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Tallmadge Middle School, 76 North Ave. Community Action Network and Tallmadge Middle School are partnering to present this youth event for all middle school students who live in Tallmadge, whether they attend public, private or parochial schools, or are home-schooled. Cost to attend the dance is $5 presale and $6 at the door. All tickets sold prior to the cancellation will be honored on April 11. Students who still wish to purchase tickets may buy them at TMS on April 10. Music will be provided by NRG Entertainment, a disc jockey who interacts with youth while playing their favorite songs. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the event. The ticket price includes a slice of pizza and a beverage, however, additional snacks and beverages may be purchased at the dance. All proceeds from the dance will be used to plan future activities and events for Tallmadge youth. To alleviate traffic congestion, parents are requested to drop their students off and pick them up at the north door of TMS, observing one-way traffic flow by entering the TMS north parking lot from North Avenue and exiting onto Northeast Avenue. Students will be dismissed from the dance on a staggered schedule with sixth-graders being dismissed at 9:10 p.m., seventh-graders at 9:20 and eighth-graders at 9:30. The event is being planned by a steering committee consisting of more than a dozen Tallmadge Middle School students and several adult members of Community Action Network. CAN is a volunteer organization composed of citizens who live, work, and/or attend church in Tallmadge and are committed to the promotion of healthy, drug-free lifestyles in the Tallmadge community. For information about CAN, contact President Linda Sasanecki at 330-630-9718. High school student work on display at mall Student work from the high school will be included in the display from Northeastern Ohio's Technology Education Classes at the 2008 NEOTEA Spring Show at Chapel Hill Mall April 5 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Teacher Keith Bee invites the community to stop by and see the "work product" of Tallmadge High School students. Kindergarten registration
Registration for children who will enroll in kindergarten in the Tallmadge City Schools for the 2008-09 school year will take place April 3 at Overdale Primary School, 90 W. Overdale Drive. There will be two registration sessions, one at 1:30 p.m. and another at 6:30 p.m. At each registration session, school staff will be on hand to answer questions and to discuss the kindergarten curriculum and mandatory pre-enrollment screening. According to policy adopted by the Tallmadge Board of Education, a child must be 5 years of age on or before Aug. 1, 2008 to attend kindergarten in the fall. A successful kindergarten experience is a pre-requisite for enrollment in first grade. To register, the parent or guardian (child does not need to be present) will need to bring 1. proof of residency (copy of two current utility bills showing both name and address or a current lease agreement), 2. certified copy of the child's official birth certificate, 3. immunization records, 4. original or copy of child's Social Security card, 5. parent's drivers license, and 6. names, addresses and phone numbers of physicians and hospitals for the emergency medical authorization form. Also, if a child custody decree has been issued, state law requires the custodial parent to present a certified copy of the court orders at the time of enrollment. All documents are necessary to complete registration and will be maintained in the student's enrollment file. Families are encouraged to register their children at this time. Early registration helps the school staff to plan programming and room assignments for the coming school year. For additional information, contact building principal, Karen Moore at 330-630-5987. Market Day products available Market Day is now available through Tallmadge elementary schools. Every month, orders may be made online and may be picked up at Overdale Primary School. Market Day offers a varied selection of entrees, side dishes, appetizers, desserts and more. A percentage of sales benefits the schools.
