We are too often reminded of the frailty of the human spirit. Acts of selfishness, corruption, crime and terror are splashed across the fronts of newspapers. Television and radio news stations recount the day's death tolls of wars abroad. Launch any Internet browser and you're bombarded with news of the latest celebrity or political scandal. But this Easter Sunday reminds us that there is much good left in this world. In fact, this most holiest of Christian holidays focuses on one of the most selfless acts in recorded history. Christians believe Jesus Christ, who has the distinction of being born without sin, freely chose to give up his life so that those after him might be saved from it. After being arrested for his beliefs, humiliated, tortured and nailed to a cross 2,000 years ago, Christ took with him into death the sins of all people. Just as he physically came back to life after three days in a tomb, so, too, were we spiritually reborn by his actions. Through his pain and sacrifice, we all were given a clean slate to enter this world without a negative mark against us. So despite all the news of agony, hate and death we endure each day, we as individuals can overcome our personal suffering and wrongdoing we have caused others -- if we ask God for forgiveness. During this Easter season, Christians ask people of all religions to join them in finding this forgiveness and in reaching out to others we have hurt or who have hurt us, and making peace with them. Worlds are changed one person at a time. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. Comments
