As a concerned parent, taxpayer, Overdale PTA president and employee of Tallmadge City Schools, I have an issue with the display of information regarding the schools.

By the Tallmadge Express placing the status of the new high school on the same page as the operating cuts, I believe it appears that one directly affects the other. It was not only done on the cover page of the newspaper, but also on Page 12 for continuing information.

As discussed at the Parent Information Nights held at each school, there is already a misconception that the new high school is directly causing the cuts in the school system. These monies are entirely separate. Money that has been allocated to the new high school cannot be used in our operating budget. It is for permanent structure costs only. The operating cuts have been made due to the lack of funds given by the state and the fact that there has not been an increase in monies by any other levy. There has been no new operating money since 2001.

I am deeply concerned, because I feel a person who does not read the Tallmadge Express, but just glances at the pictures, will get an entirely different picture of the situation.

We are in desperate need of encouragement along with monies for operating. Major cuts have been made, and it has nothing to do with the building of the high school. We are still in fiscal watch, and our children's quality education is at risk.

If you have questions regarding how the school is allowed to spend the money, or would like information regarding the budget, contact your school officials.
