Tallmadge Branch Library Book Sale
set for May 3

The Tallmadge Library Association Book Sale has been set for May 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A preview sale for current Tallmadge Library Association members will take place May 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. New members are welcome to join for $5 per person.

The donation of gently used books, tapes, CDs and DVDs will be accepted right up to the sale date. Simply drop them off at the library during normal business hours.

Library Association accepting applications for scholarship grant

The Tallmadge Library Association is offering its fifth annual educational scholarship grant.

The scholarship grant is available to residents of Tallmadge, as well as employees of Tallmadge Branch Library. Priority will be given to applicants pursuing a degree in library and information science. The amount of this year's grant is $1,500.

Applicants must submit a scholarship grant application, recent high school or college transcript, a 250 word essay and two to three letters of recommendation.

Applications are available at the circulation desk at the Tallmadge Branch Library.

All completed application materials must be submitted to a librarian at the Tallmadge Branch or sent to the following address on or before May 9:

Carol Law, Chair, TLA Scholarship Committee, c/o Tallmadge Branch Library, 90 Community Road, Tallmadge 44278-2802.

The recipient will be notified by the Tallmadge Library Association by June 1. A check will be sent to his or her college or university upon proof of enrollment.

Teen program

* Teen Writer's Group -- May 15, 3:30 p.m. for grades 6 through 12. Those who enjoy writing songs, stories and/or poems are invited to attend. Advance registration requested.

Adult programs

* "Dorothy Fuldheim -- the First lady of Television News" -- May 6 at 2 p.m. Remember that colorful, opinionated redhead of the Northeast Ohio news front of years ago? Carol Starre-Kmiecik, one-woman performer, will re-enact Northeast Ohio's own Dorothy Fuldheim, the first woman to anchor a television news broadcast and host her own television show.

Book discussion

* May 12, 6:30 p.m., "A Good Distance" by Sarah Willis.
