Tallmadge High School rolled out the red carpet to honor students for their academic achievement, leadership and community service during the annual All-School Awards program in the school gym April 17.

Senior Benjamin Cochran received the Phi Beta Kappa award for academic excellence from Kent State University. Senior Ian Manka was the recipient of the Ohio Academic Scholarship (OAS). Cochran, Matthew Bauch, Dana Crawford and Scott Hovest were recognized as OAS applicants.

Seniors Kelly Myers and Patrick Pakan received the U.S. Army Reserves Scholar-Athlete award. Nicole Schaefer was tapped for the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award.

Junior Derek Harden received the Rensselaer Math and Science Achievement Award. Matthew Thomas earned the University of Rochester's Bausch & Lomb Science award. The University of Rochester also gives a Humanities Award, which went to junior Stephen Roth. Another junior, Amanda Clark, won the University of Rochester's Kodak Young Leadership Award. Grant Cohoe earned the Xerox Award for Innovation and Technology, also from the University of Rochester.

Mario Perkins was selected as the THS nominee to the Martin Essex School for the Gifted. THS also recognized Essex applicants Nicholas Freeman-Clark and Emily Markovich.

Sophomore Danielle Schaefer was selected for the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership conference. Juniors Stephen Roth and Eryyn Truex were tapped for the Junior League of Akron Leadership program. Roth and Jamie Buehler received the West Point Leadership Award. Colleen Ferguson and Katherine Pozuc earned recognition for participation in the Summit-Portage Leadership Institute. The Rotary Youth Leadership Award went to Dana Crawford. Ian Manka was recognized as THS representative to Buckeye Boys State. Manka, Crawford and their senior classmates Matthew Bauch, Ben Cochran, Kevin Shaffer and Rachel Tomello were nominated for recognition as Beacon Journal and Plain Dealer star students.

Departmental awards were presented for achievement in the classroom.

MATHEMATICS. Benjamin Cochran, Derek Harden and Rachel Sarvis won the Richard Lockhart Calculus Award. The Harold G. Schall Advanced Mathematics award went to Brian Phillips, Stephen Roth, Leah Sibbio and Matthew Thomas. Yianni Karvounides, Patrick Pakan and Claire Weiss were honored as AP Statistics Students of the Year. The top scorers in the American Mathematics Competitio this year were Rosalie Murphy, Michelle Richard, Scott Hovest and Brian Phillips.

ENGLISH. Freshmen Student of the Year honors went to Andrew Bonnette, Vanessa Techentin, and Hannah Kenny. Sophomore honors went to Brent Pittenger, Samantha Reed, Dan Enos and Emily Kozy. Matthew Keen and Brian Phillips were named Junior Students of the Year. Senior awards winners in English were Benjamin Cochran and Colleen Kelly.

Journalism students Lisa Conti, Jessica Orlando, and Alyssa Brown were recognized for their outstanding work as editors for the school newspaper. Paige Smith and Jalissa Winston were similarly recognized for their work as co-editors of the school yearbook. Robert Sell and Chrissy Manning earned "most improved" honors in journalism and speech, respectively.

SCIENCE. This year's Outstanding Students in Science are: freshmen LeAnn Brown and Fiyinfoluwa Dosunmu; sophomores Jennifer DeMarco and Geoff George; juniors Lindsey Montanari and Stephen Roth; and seniors Ashley Davis and Collin Haben.

SOCIAL STUDIES. Derek Harden, Craig Siesel, Catherine Swejk, Kristen Thompson and Claire Weiss were recognized as the Outstanding American and World Studies students. Ian Manka was named Outstanding AP Government student. Rosalie Murphy and Brian Phillips earned Student of the Year honors in AP U.S. History. Danielle Uzl was named Outstanding Government Student.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE. Emily Kozy, Aryn Hill, Astrid Klingenberg, Brandon Haney, Matthew Keen, and Alexandria Hannay were recognized for Outstanding Achievement in Spanish. Steven Larson and Noah Bland were the Outstanding AP Spanish students. The Outstanding French language students were Michelle Perella, Meredith Spano, Kyle Hovest, Rosalie Murphy, Stephen Roth, Catherine Swejk and Rachel Tomello.

ART. The Scholastic Art award winners were recognized: Melanie Andrews, Tyler Blackiston, Ryan Buntain, Kim Coffman, Zachary Galehouse, Kelsey Kulesza, Gina Pace, Alisa Sheningo, Annah Sprague, Amber Trout and Kyle Webb.

MUSIC. Six students earned honors for their Excellence in Instrumental Music: Dan Bolovan, Spencer Cutlip, Jonathan Lampley, Cara McGuiness, Donovan Tanner, and Ashley Zarle.

Benjamin Cochran received the National School Choral Award.

BUSINESS DEPARTMENT: Jennifer Brown and Marissa Manno received the Excellence in Business award. Tricia Zuk was recognized for Outstanding Achievement in the Business Professionals of America.

TECHNOLOGY. Stephen Clark won the Outstanding Craftsmanship Award for Advanced Woods Technology. Yianni Karvounides and Paul Pakan received the Outstanding Craftsmanship Awards in Basic Woods.

Other awards included:

ACADEMIC CHALLENGE. Senior Kevin Shaffer was named MVP of the Academic Challenge team. Senior Letterwinner honors went to Shaffer, Benjamin Cochran, Scott Hovest and Ian Manka.

ATTENDANCE. Top honors for attendance went to Stephen Haury who achieved Perfect Attendance for all four years at THS. Other perfect attendance awards were handed out to Anastasia Billow, Spencer Blackiston, Tyler Blackiston, Lael Bland, Travis Boll, Amanda Calvin, Grant Cohoe, Ian Colledge, Donna Cottrell, Olivia DeMeio, Brian Eisenberger, Dan Enos, Kurt Fire, Derek Frye, John Graham, Marie Hamilton, Kyle Hovest, Yianni Karvounides, Jace Kelly, Miranda Mick, Corey Oliver, Branden Pelle, Regan Quintrell, Rachel Sarvis, Nathan Scheule, Craig Siesel, Joshua Smoot, Matthew Storment, Vanessa Techentin, Jenica Veffredo, Mellina Veffredo, and Roy Young.

OCCUPATIONAL WORK STUDY: Recipients of this year's awards were juniors Corey Cammel and Carly Domres and seniors Angela Low, Dan Miller, and Kyle Rood.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: This year's D.A.R.E. role models received certificates for their volunteer efforts: Sarah Buehler, Jonathan Lampley, Paul Mastran, Patrick Pakan, and Stephanie Powell, Andrea Stadelman. Shannon Kowaleski received the Healthy Lifestyles Award.
