The rules listed are not an all-inclusive list. For a copy of the entire set of rules and regulations, visit the service department at Tallmadge City Hall, 46 North Ave. The following outlines owner/purchaser of Right of Interment, family, or designee responsibilities: The trimming and other maintenance of all plantings, other than grass, shall be solely the responsibility of the owner/purchaser, family of the deceased or someone designated by the family. All plantings and decorations must be kept within the "monument/decoration area" section of the grave space and shall in no way interfere with, or present a danger to, adjacent grave spaces or to cemetery maintenance personnel or operations. City responsibilities The city has the responsibility to maintain the grass areas of grave spaces and for the complete maintenance of all common areas of the cemetery. All items planted or placed on grave spaces becomes city property and such may thus be removed and disposed of by the city whenever such items are either not permitted, or are left beyond permissible time periods. The city assumes no responsibility whatsoever for trimming or maintaining any plantings on a grave space other than those in the "grass area" of a grave space, but reserves the right to remove any plantings whose roots raise or displace or obscure monuments, those that are unkempt, unsightly, overgrown, or those that interfere with adjacent grave spaces. The city also reserves the right to remove any plantings or items that could present a danger or nuisance to maintenance personnel. The city will post the typically designated weekly growing season clearing days, i.e., when unsightly or non-permitted items will be removed from the cemetery. The city will post the typically designated semi-annual clearing days (around March 15 and November 15), i.e., when end-of-season items will be removed from the cemetery. The city reserves the right to temporarily remove any items placed on grave spaces for reasons of cemetery maintenance, access to adjacent grave spaces, or other reasons. To assist the city in returning such items to their proper location upon completion of the work, it shall be the responsibility of the owner/purchaser or family to clearly mark such items with the grave name(s). The city assumes no responsibility for the disappearance of, or damage to, any plantings, adornment or decorations on any grave space. Plantings and
For purposes of this section of Rules and Regulations, the total grave space area of 4-feet by 10-feet is divided into two areas: "Monument/decoration area," consisting of the headstone area (18 inches long) and the planting area (12 inches long) for a total area of 30 inches long by 42 inches wide. "Grass area," consisting of the remaining grave space area of 7 feet 6 inches long by 4 feet wide. All items planted or placed on grave spaces become city property at the time of placement. No trees shall be planted anywhere on grave spaces. No shrubs or bushes shall be planted anywhere on grave spaces. Planting of bulbs, perennial and annual flowering plants is permitted, however, certain perennial plant types are prohibited. In all cases, it is the family's responsibility to maintain and weed such flower gardens. The only acceptable mulch for such flower beds is the decomposing variety, e.g., bark or wood chips. Flower beds shall not be provided with fencing or edging of any kind. Artificial flowers are permitted at any time, provided they are of seasonal varieties and are not faded or unsightly.
