Stow man wins professional debut It didn't go quite as planned, but Stow-Munroe Falls graduate Shawn "Showtime" Porter officially earned his first victory as a professional boxer. Shawn, 20, scored a first-round knockout against Brooklyn resident Norman Johnson Oct. 2 at the Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury, Md. The fight was stopped 1 minute, 17 seconds into the bout. Shawn also sent Johnson to the canvas earlier in the round. His bout was the undercard to other matches featuring James De la Rosa, who won the World Boxing Council welterweight youth title against Tim Coleman, and Fernando Guerrero, who beat Tyrone Watson. It was an experience that nearly had to wait for another day. Shawn was originally supposed to fight Mike Wyatt of New Jersey, but Wyatt did not board his plane. Shawn's promoters, Russ and Danny Young of Prize Fight Promoters, found the 24-year-old Johnson, who was 1-3 in four professional bouts. That wasn't all. Shawn weighed 158 pounds a couple days before the fight. Johnson, on the other hand, weighed 170 pounds. Nearly 7,000 fans watched the bout. Shawn, who has more than 300 amateur bouts in his career, said he may fight again Nov. 1 in either Cincinnati or Memphis. Comments
