Tallmadge -- Tallmadge resident Dr. Rich Reikowski was recently honored for excellence for his work in audiology.

Reikowski received the 2009 Ohio Academy of Audiology Clinical Excellence Award Feb. 20.

The Academy only picks one recipient per year, according to Reikowski's office manager Jessica Rowand. To qualify for the award, a physician must contribute to direct patient care, develop a clinical pathway or protocol for a specific patient population and publish research relating to their clinical practice, Rowand said.

In addition to meeting the above criteria, a physician must be nominated by a colleague. Reikowski was nominated by Dr. Richard Hetsko, a former president of the OAA, Rowand added.

"This award is very humbling to me to be recognized among my peers in clinical audiology throughout Ohio," said Reikowski. "I am honored to be able to help those with hearing and balance-related concerns."

Reikowski, a director of audiology, has private practices at the Family Hearing and Balance Center in Akron and at the Cardinal Union Hearing Centers in Northfield and Parma.

Reikowski has lived in the city, with his wife and three children, for the past 10 years. He and his family attend Our Lady of Victory Church.

"Receiving this award will hopefully offer the community the assurance of my commitment to excellence in hearing and balance care," he said. "I am hopeful it will extend a sense of assurance and credibility to those with hearing and balance related needs to seek my office and clinic as a choice for help."
