RICHARD D, JENKINS

U.S. Navy, Army veteran

Richard D. Jenkins, 77, died following a two-year battle with cancer.

Mr. Jenkins retired from Hopkins & Kipp after 40 years of service. Most recently, he worked at Bath Tractor with his good friend, Mark Stiles. According to his family, Mr. Jenkins Dick loved his work and the many friends he made there. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Army, and a member of VFW Post 3383, American Legion, Sons of Herman, DAV, Army-Navy 250, Adoniram Joppa Lodge 517 F&AM. He also enjoyed working around the house, repairing things, yard work and sitting on his deck enjoying the outdoors. With Polly, his wife of 18 years, he enjoyed dancing and weekly dinners and breakfasts with their good friends. His family says he also took great pleasure watching his grandchildren's sport activities.

Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Opal Jenkins and sister, Jerry Wingard. He is survived by his wife, Polly (Ouellette) Jenkins; children, Cindy Heilman, Judy (Joe) Juengl, and Richard; stepchildren, Steve (Deb) Ouellette, Sherry (Jim) Wray and Scott (Kristen) Ouellette; brother, Frank (Shirley); sisters, Bonnie (Gene) Hodgson and Gloria Sonegere; grandchildren, Heather, Nicole, Geoff, Emily, JJ, Jesse, Carrie, Jordan, Kaide and Erynn; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Care Center, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron 44333.

Donovan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
