JAMES J. STREBLER

U.S. Marine, great-grandfather, avid golfer

James J. Strebler, 84, died of pancreatic cancer on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009.

Born in Akron, he attended Central High School and The University of Akron. During World War II, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. After retiring from a career in management in the trucking industry, he pursued his lifelong interest -- golf.

Preceded in death by brothers, John, Raymond, Jerome and Gerald; sister, Catherine Elliott; and grandson, Jacob Strebler; Mr. Strebler is survived by his wife, Rose (nee Moro); children, Tim (Sue), Mike (Lisa), Dan (Sandy), Dave (Tamara), Carol and Fr. Charles; grandchildren, Brian, Paul (Tracy), Kevin, Sarah (fiancé, Jeff), Sam, Neil and Daniel; great-granddaughter, Christina; friends, Evelyn and Roger Garver, Merideth and Nick Tavernaris, Ed and Loretta Walchalk and Bill and Diane Floto.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Strebler's name to The Cathedral Tribute Fund, The Cathedral of St. John, 1007 Superior Ave., Cleveland, 44114.

Donovan Bagnoli Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
