HOWARD L. ALLGOOD

World War II U.S. Navy veteran, great-grandfather

Howard L. Allgood, 84, died May 26, 2009.

Mr. Allgood was born in Akron and lived his life in the Akron-Tallmadge area. He owned and operated Allgood Realty for more than 50 years and was a licensed real estate appraiser. In 1974, he served as president of the Akron Area Board of Realtors.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and served on the LCI 561. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Akron where he was a member of the Lone Star Fraternity. He was a member of the East High School and University of Akron Hall of Fame for track, as well as being a member of Mogadore VFW Post 8487.

According to Mr. Allgood's family, his only request was that he have a Manhattan with cherry juice on the rocks, which he was able to enjoy; while his only regret was that he never made a hole in one on the golf course.

Mr. Allgood was preceded in death by a sister, Mertis, and son-in-law, Michael Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Katie; daughters, Nancy Wilson, Gloria (Richard) Freeman, Patti (Roger) Maxwell, Sherri (Gary) Plazak, and Andrea Allgood; and a son, Greg Allgood; a brother, Andy Allgood; grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew, John, Kathleen, Chris, Mellissa, Chris and Emma; great-grandchildren, Alayna, Hailey, and Elijah; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Donations may be made to Akron General Hospital Coronary Care Unit, or to the American Heart Assoc., Ohio Valley Affiliate, P.O. Box 634445 Cincinnati 45263.

Donovan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
