Girls win title The Tallmadge Lady Blue Devils 10-and-under travel softball team won the Westerville Tournament, which concluded June 21. The Lady Blue Devils captured the championship with an 8-6 victory over the Worthington Warcats June 21. Pitcher Olivia Carey allowed six runs in seven innings to pick up the win. Earlier in the day, Tallmadge scored a 12-11 victory over the Plain City Pioneers and a 15-7 win over Gahanna. In the victory over the Pioneers, the Lady Blue Devils rallied from an 8-2 deficit. The game against Gahanna took more than two hours to play in 90-plus degree temperatures, which took a lot out of the girls, according to coach Les Stroud. Tallmadge posted a 3-0 record in pool play June 20, including a 3-2 victory over the Plain City Pioneers in the final game of the day. Carey, thanks to some help from catcher Kali Stroud, got the win on the mound. The Lady Blue Devils also got stellar pitching efforts from Rachel McNulty and Brianna Idell. The team scored 55 runs during the tournament. John Idell is the team's manager. Dave Phillips also is a coach. Rounding out the squad are Alyssa Garbinsky, Hailey Raines, Hailey Phillips, Brittney Harris, Olivia Ayres, Courtney Cernyak, Leslie Hill and Jordyn Pflugh.
