Tallmadge -- A Christian movie from California is showing in Akron due to the efforts of the Rev. Chuck Marshall, pastor of Compass Point Chapel, 1393 Southeast Ave. in Tallmadge.
Marshall, who went to a Christian International Convention in Anaheim, Calif. with his wife in May, had the opportunity to preview a showing of the movie, "The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry."
"The movie's message is about love and forgiveness and living a Godly life," said Marshall, who said he was deeply stirred by the movie's message.
According to the movie's Web site, the film is about three boys who develop a unique friendship with a 75-year-old man, played by Love Boat and Mary Tyler Moore Show actor Gavin MacLeod.
Rich Christiano, the screenwriter and director of the film, and his company have no advertising budget, and encouraged pastors at the conference to show the movie in their respective communities, Marshall explained.
"Here was an opportunity to minister powerfully to all of the churches in Summit County and beyond the church walls to whomever would see this movie," he said. "The church I pastor is still small, and I reasoned it would be better for a larger church to get behind this."
So, with help from fellow pastors and churches, the PG rated movie will be playing at the Regal Interstate Park Cinema, 1089 Interstate Park Highway in Akron beginning this weekend. Call 1-800-326-3264, extension 283 for show times.
"My prayer is that the movie will receive enough positive public response so that it can stay in Akron for several weeks and offer the opportunity for as many as possible as possible to see it and be inspired to better follow the Lord," Marshall said.
