Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner on Tuesday filed an administrative complaint against Summit County Board of Elections Chairman Jack Morrison after he failed to resign from the board because of his conviction on two ethics-related charges.
Morrison, a Silver Lake resident, is the Munroe Falls law director. He was not immediately available for comment(?)
Under state law, the secretary of state has the power to remove elections board members “for neglect of duty, malfeasance, misfeasance or nonfeasance in office.”
The filing of the complaint is the first step of a due process proceeding. An administrative hearing has been afforded to Morrison at 9 a.m. on Nov. 18 in Columbus.
The complaint comes after Morrison sent a letter stipulating that he will not resign his position on the board, as had been requested by Secretary Brunner in an Oct. 5 letter.
Court records show Morrison was convicted on two misdemeanor counts of Ohio ethics law violations and was acquitted on five counts in July. Morrison has filed an appeal on his convictions but no court date has been set.
