Tallmadge -- Three at-large Council members and two Board of Education members, all incumbents, are running unopposed for re-election to their respective seats Nov. 3. They are joined by one newcomer, who will run for a vacated spot on School Board.

Current Board Vice President Thom Craig announced several months ago he would not seek re-election. Brad Croskey, newly retired as the Tallmadge City School's director of technology, is running for the opening created by Craig.

Croskey has 34 years of experience within Tallmadge Schools as a teacher and coach, as well as his former administrative position.

Croskey said he looks forward to helping the district during this financially difficult time.

Incumbent Boardmember Rick Kellar and School Board Vice President Valorie Prulhiere are running for re-election Nov. 3.

Kellar has five years' experience on the Board and said he will continue to stay focused on the financial situation of the district "while still providing an 'Excellent with Distinction' education for students."

Prulhiere has served the Board for eight years and said her focus is to "continue to open up doors of opportunity for students" and to continue being "fiscal and fair with tax dollars."

City Council candidates

The term limits for Council's three at-large seats expired this year, and all three incumbents are running unopposed.

Council President Jack Sarver has served 10 years on Council, four as president, after he was appointed to the position when Dave Kline left to become the city's public service director.

"What I hope to do is cooperate with the administration to be fiscally responsible with tax payer dollars and cut what we need to cut from the budget because we're in a bind from lack of income tax revenue," said Sarver about his next four years in office. "Because of a lack of income tax dollars, I also want to help generate an interest in the business community to bring in more tax dollars to the city."

Councilmember Robert Maguire has been with Council for two years and was appointed to the position after Lisa Zeno Carano left to serve as the Stow Municipal Clerk of Courts.

Maguire said he wants to continue his job on Council because, as a lawyer with a firm in Tallmadge, "I enjoy the challenge and honor of writing legislation for the city."

Councilmember Kim Ray has served since last January when former Council Vice President Jerry Feeman was elected to Summit County Council.

"It is a privilege to serve the citizens of Tallmadge," said Ray. "We have a challenging and exciting four years ahead of us."

Council and Boardmembers are elected to four-year terms.
