Advises good stewardship of tax dollars

As a proud parent of two Tallmadge school students, I am happy to see the levy passed.

However, there are still many people who don't believe the school district needed a levy in the first place or are worried about being able to pay the additional taxes.

I hope the school district will use taxpayers' money wisely over the next five years. Economically, our state and our country are in financial trouble and our citizens are making a great sacrifice in providing our school district with this money. I hope the School Board doesn't go out and reinstate everything cut from the budget this past year, such as pay-to-play and high school busing.

The passing of this levy does not give the School Board the green light to spend the taxpayers' money recklessly. The School Board must show fiscal responsibility for the next five years. History tells us it is very difficult to pass a levy in Tallmadge and the board must act responsibly with the taxpayers' money. Since the state has not fixed the school funding issue, it is very likely the Board will be back in five years to ask for a renewal.

To the students and teachers in the Tallmadge schools, keep up the good work. To the School Board, remember that the taxpayers are watching how you are spending their hard-earned money and they will hold you accountable.

You may want to attend school board meetings. 3rd wednesday of every month at the Tallmadge Highschool 6pm. The school board just decided to decrease the cost pay to play as of Wednesday.

They did not reinstate teachers
They did not reinstate tutors
Or talk about the new text books they need instead priority was to reduce the burden on parents paying for extracuriculars.

Every board meeting is open to the public and all information is suppose to be available. The District provides the minimum outline. At the end is an open forum where you have 3 minutes to voice your opinon.
