Queen of Heaven Church Sunday Community Breakfasts Sunday Community Breakfast will take place Dec. 6 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and the first Sunday of each month. Breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage and accompaniments. The cost for preschool children is $2, all others pay $4.
Feast of the Immaculate Conception Masses in celebration of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, a holy day of obligation for Catholics, are scheduled for Dec. 7, from 7 to 7:45 p.m. and Dec. 8, from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. and 7 to 7:45 p.m. Communal Penance The Summit South 6 Cluster of Catholic churches will host Communal Penance Services from approximately 7 to 9 p.m. as follows: Dec. 13 at Queen of Heaven Church, 1800 Steese Road, Green; Dec. 14 at St. Francis de Sales Church, 4019 Manchester Road, Coventry; and Dec. 16 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1580 Brown St., Akron. The Summit South 6 Cluster is a community of churches in the Diocese of Cleveland, namely, Nativity of Our Lord Jesus, Springfield; Queen of Heaven; St. Francis de Sales; and St. Paul. Christmas schedule Christmas schedule: Individual confessions will be heard Dec. 19 from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.; Dec. 22 from 9 to 10 a.m. and 7 to 8 p.m.; and Dec. 23 from 5 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m. Christmas Masses will be scheduled Dec. 24 from 4 to 5 p.m. and 8 to 9 p.m. with music by the Sent Forth Band at 7:30 p.m.; Midnight to 1 a.m. with music by the adult choir at 11:15 p.m.; and Dec. 25 from 9 to 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon. First Church of God offers Christmas VBS Dec. 19 First Church of God, 464 Northeast Ave., presents "A Night in Bethlehem -- Christmas Vacation Bible School" Dec. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for children 3 years of age through sixth-grade. First Congregational Church Blue Christmas service The holiday season can be a difficult time of year for those who are living with painful memories of loss, whether it is through death, divorce, separation or other significant losses. Holiday celebrations can make one more acutely aware of the absence of loved ones. First Congregational Church invites individuals and their families or friends to attend a Blue Christmas service Dec. 13 at 6:30 p.m. to help bring strength, courage and peace during this holiday season. The service will feature meditation, worship, singing and prayer. Light refreshments will be served following the service. Camel Lot Children's Christmas Musical First Congregational Church of Tallmadge invites the public to enjoy a children's Christmas musical Dec. 20 at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch. 'Old Fashioned Christmas' celebration set for Dec. 6 Tallmadge United Methodist Church, 207 N. Munroe Road, will present its annual Christmas season celebration Dec. 6 with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. followed by a full-course dinner featuring Chicken Forestiere at 6 p.m. The event's "An Old Fashioned Christmas" theme, borrowed from two now-closed Akron churches, will present musical selections by the bell choir, chancel choir and ensembles of male voices. Munroe Road, will present its annual Christmas pageant Dec. 13 at 5 p.m. following a family covered dish dinner at 4 p.m. The musical presentation, "Once Upon a Holy Night," based on the New Testament books of Luke and Matthew, will be directed by Amanda Baker with assistance from Marnie Sanders, Susie Bolovan and Jill Smith. All attending are asked to donate a small toy for presentation to a child confined to bed at Children's Hospital. 'Love and Respect' two-part series Community Baptist Church of Tallmadge, 274 N. Munroe Road, welcomes David Jackson who will lead two sessions on "Love and Respect" Nov. 29 and Dec. 6. The two-part series focuses on God's view on marriage and how using His guidelines can lead to a happier, more content marriage. Attendees will learn how to avoid the "crazy cycle" and appreciate the differences between men and women. Church of Christ to Northwest Avenue Church of Christ will conduct the 13-week Financial Peace University classes beginning Jan. 6, 2010. Many people are facing today's economy with a spirit of fear. FPU will show how to follow God's plan to beat debt, build wealth and keep one's own economy thriving -- even if the nation's isn't. During the sessions, participants will learn how to get control of their money; how to stop struggling to make ends meet; and much more. Registration will begin Nov. 22. A one-time cost of $95 for materials must be paid before classes start. Child care will not be provided. Class times are scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church.
