DAVID JAMES UEHLEIN SR. World War II veteran, farmer David James Uehlein Sr., 89, died Jan. 22, 2010, with his family at his side. Mr. Uehlein was born and raised in Lorain, moved to Alaska, then to Washington state where he was employed by the Hanford Atomic Power Plant, after which he moved to the Tallmadge area and stayed until he moved in 1970 to Covington, where he began his career as a successful farmer for the next 37 years and finally retired to North Carolina in 2005. In 2001, he was awarded his high school diploma from Covington High School for his lifetime service to his community and his country. Mr. Uehlein served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the military police at the prisoner of war camp in Como, Miss. He was a member of Warren Lodge 0024 F&AM, Antioch Temple of the Shrine and the Miami County Shrine Club. Other memberships include the VFW, Amvets Post 66 Covington, American Legion, FOE Lodge Aerie 3998 and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. Mr. Uehlein was preceded in death by his wife, Judi; brothers, Julius and Leonard; and sisters, Virginia and Doris. He is survived by his daughter, Susan D. (Russ) Peterson of North Carolina; his son, David J. (Ellen) Uehlein Jr. of Cuyahoga Falls; his sister, Doreen Lute of Lorain; two grandchildren, Melissa (Joe) Hufft and David J.
