Tallmadge -- The Heritage Day Festival may return, if the new Chamber of Commerce president has anything to say about it.

In January, the Chamber voted for new leaders of the 190-member organization. County Councilmember and former Chamber Vice President Jerry Feeman ran unopposed for president.

"I have a really tough act to follow with [former president] Carol Martin and Keith Lucas," said Feeman, who has been a member since 1998.

Jill Morrow of Speelman Electric Inc. ran unopposed for vice president. And Lucas said he will serve Chamber as a trustee.

Something Feeman said he'd like to do during his two-year term as president is bring back a Heritage Day Festival.

"I'd like to get the Chamber extremely active in that," he said. "We'll get together a night/light parade, fireworks on the Circle, bands on the Circle."

Feeman said he and some fellow Chamber members are meeting with city officials and area businesses to discuss the options to have the event possibly in August.

"It will help bring back some enthusiasm," he said. "A lot of people have been requesting we do this again."

He said it would be nice to have the event, especially because the summer concert series on the Circle was canceled last year as a cost-saving measure.

Another project Feeman said he would like to institute is to an online networking site for Chamber members and businesses. The site would also offer coupons.

Feeman said he would like the Web site to be similar to www.ishopsummit.com, where people can get deals and take virtual tours of local businesses.

"It's going to take some time," he said. " ... but we're going to look into it."

The next Chamber of Commerce general luncheon meeting is Feb. 17 at 11:30 a.m. The lunch is $12 and to reserve a seat, call 330-633-5417.
