Empty out those penny jars for a good cause The members of the Tallmadge chapter of the National Honor Society are sponsoring “Pennies for Patients” drive during the week of Feb. 8 through 12. The fundraiser is designed to raise awareness and money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Leukemia is the number one cancer striking young people under the age of 20. The fundraiser will be ongoing the month of February in the other Tallmadge City Schools, but the high school is limiting its focus to one week. Students are asked to donate their change each day. Academy teachers will display a small collection box for donations. NHS members will also sell “pennies” to sign and post in the rotunda during lunch. The donation of $1 puts a penny on the wall and enters that student into a drawing for prizes the following week. A prize of pizza will be given to the academy collecting the most money over and above a minimum of $30. “Pennies for Patients” collects money to be used to support patients battling leukemia and lymphoma. NHS members will collect change at Tallmadge High School, Tallmadge Middle School and Munroe Elementary. All funds collected will go directly to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
