McWhirter Wins Again in Kids1st Series

August 7, 2007

August 5, 2007 " Jacob McWhirter and the #7 Victory Racing/Brown Derby Roadhouse Cadet Junior Sportsman raced in the third race of the Kids1st series at Thompson Raceway Park. The weekend began with practice sessions Saturday on the six-turn, quarter mile track. The #7 rolled off the trailer Sunday morning to cloudy skies. The two practice sessions led to some minor changes in set up that resulted in quicker lap times. A low pill draw gave Jake the pole for the first heat, but the current Thompson season series leader was alongside with the sixth ranked Cadet driver in the nation lurking one row back.

Driver and Crew Chief discussed the possibility that the heat race could possibly be the only race of the day. With skies darkening, Jake brought the field to the green flag. A clean start resulted in Jake leading a four kart break away to the white flag. Just after the white flag, a slower kart caused turn 1 to get very crowded as five karts made their way through. Jake was able to make a clean pass and led the pack to the checkered flag.

After over two hours of intermittent rain and the Cadet class on the pre-grid for the second heat the skies opened and washed away any chance of further racing. Since the heat race was completed and rain tires are not used in this series the results of the heat were final.

Jake and Victory Racing will race in two states this weekend. We will return to the Beaverun Motorsports Complex in Pennsylvania for the fourth and final race of the Kids1st series on Saturday August 11th. This series spotlights the best Kid and Cadet karters from Ohio and Pennsylvania. Jake has two wins and a runner-up finish in the series.

On Sunday Jake will return to Barberton Speedway while looking to drive the #7 into victory lane for the ninth time this season. Racing begins at noon with free admission to the grandstand. Come on out and watch one of the fastest nine year olds in the country.
