Two separate traffic stops result in drug charges

Tallmadge -- Following separate traffic stops, two Akron men are facing drug charges.

On March 31, just before 11:30 p.m., officers had stopped a vehicle and were searching the vehicle's passenger, 25-year-old Akron man, for weapons. During the search, officers reported finding two plastic bags inside the man's shoes which contained suspected marijuana. According to the report, the two bags contained 30 grams of suspected marijuana. The man was issued a summons for possession of marijuana and released.

On April 2 around 3:15 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle for an alleged speed violation. According to the report, an officer noted he could "smell marijuana emanating from inside the car." During a search of the vehicle, officers reported finding 38 grams of suspected marijuana in six separate plastic bags and one burnt marijuana blunt between the center console and the passenger's front seat. The passenger, a 26-year-old Akron man, was arrested on a charge of trafficking in marijuana and taken to the Summit County Jail.

Disorderly conduct

March 31. Heated conversation: Officers responded to a report of a confrontation between two individuals at the Tallmadge Recreation Center. The report stated one individual confronted the other person in the locker room and "heated words were exchanged." Both parties stated there was no physical confrontation and they were advised to avoid future contact.

According to the report, officers determined there is a long-standing tension between the two families.

Domestic violence

April 7. Resident charged with domestic violence: On April 7, shortly before 10:30 p.m., officers were called to a residence after a female resident reported her father had pushed her. According to the report, there had been an argument over her having friends over when no one was at home. Police charged the father, a 39-year-old Tallmadge man, with domestic violence. He was taken to the Tallmadge Police Department where he was booked and released on a $100 bond. There was no report of injuries.

OVI

April 5. Erratic driver observed: Police received a report of an erratic driver shortly before 2 a.m. in the area of North Munroe Road and East Howe Avenue. The officer reported observing the vehicle make a turn onto Howe Avenue and go into the oncoming lanes of traffic. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a 21-year-old Stow man, was taken to the police department where he tested a .227 BAC level. He was arrested and charged with OVI, BAC and a turning violation.

April 5. Vehicle observed going left of center: Shortly after 11 p.m., police were notified of a vehicle driving erratically on West Avenue. The responding officer reported observing the vehicle go left of center and then going through a red light. After stopping the vehicle, the driver was arrested and charged with OVI and marked lanes violation, taken to the police department and released to a family member.
