First Congregational Church to host groundbreaking

First Congregational Church of Tallmadge will host a groundbreaking ceremony for its Atrium Expansion project April 27 at 11 a.m. following the 10 a.m. worship service.

Brunch will then be served in the Fellowship Hall.

First Congregational Church is located at 85 Heritage Drive.

Blood drive

First Congregational Church will host a Blood Drive April 28 from 2 to 7 p.m.

National Day of Prayer

First Congregational Church of Tallmadge will observe the National Day of Prayer through prayer May 1 from 7 to 8:15 a.m. This will be an Interfaith Day of prayer involving Tallmadge pastors and clergy from other faith communities. The intention of this day is to set aside a time to lift up in prayer for the world, nation and local community while praying for political leaders, safety and law enforcement officials, educators, business people and faith communities.

A light breakfast will be offered after for a free will donation. Those who plan to attend are asked to call the First Congregational Church of Tallmadge at 330-633-4931.

Vacation Bible school

First Congregational Church will host vacation Bible school June 22 through 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. for children 4 years of age through fifth grade.

Welcome to God's Big Back Yard. Children are asked to get ready for an outdoor adventure that starts in their own back yard and gets bigger each day as they take the love of Jesus into their neighborhoods and communities. The backyard adventure will take place daily right here at First Congregational Church of Tallmadge. Each day begins at Backyard Bash with large group music, skits and fun. Family night banquet, entertainment
set for May 10

Tallmadge United Methodist Church will host a family night banquet with entertainment by John Louis, Christian variety illusionist and comedian, May 10.

Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program at 6:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the United Methodist Women.

The John Louis: On the Edge of Illusion Gospel Variety Show uses comedy, music, juggling and animals to deliver his inspirational message.

United Methodist Women to organize worship services

The United Methodist Women of Tallmadge United Methodist Church, 207 N. Munroe Road, will be in charge of both the 9 and 10:35 a.m. worship services May 4.

The speaker of the morning will be Sandra Low of the district office of United Methodist Women.

Events at the church in the coming week include:

* April 28-- Quilters, 6 p.m

* April 29 -- Bible study on Ezekiel 16-19, 7 p.m.

* April 30 -- Chancel Choir, 7 p.m.

* May 1 -- Men's devotions and work group, 8 a.m.; Dorcas Circle, 9; worship team and adult games night, 7 p.m.; On-Line Ringers, 7:15.

Church Women United to host Friendship Luncheon

Church Women United of Tallmadge, Stow, Munroe Falls and Cuyahoga Falls invites area women to attend its annual May Friendship Day luncheon May 2 at 11:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church, 3493 Darrow Road, Stow. Tickets are $4 and will be available at the door.

The theme of this year's event is "God's Wisdom Inspires Hospitality" and will feature entertainment by the group Two Irish Harps.

Virgin in Medjugorje
to speak

The Medjugorje Prayer Group is hosting Ivan Dragicevic April 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. for an evening including praying the Rosary and Mass followed by a presentation. Dragicevic is one of six children to whom the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared in Medjugorje, Bosnia-Hercegovina, formerly called Yugoslavia. The Mother of Jesus Christ began appearing to these six young people on June 24, 1981. Dragicevic's apparitions began at age 16 and continue today. Although he speaks fluent English, he will speak in his native Croatian with an interpreter. Open to all.

Community Breakfast

Queen of Heaven Church will host a Sunday Community Breakfast May 4 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and first Sunday of each month.

Breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage and accompaniments.

The cost for preschool children is $2, all others pay $4.

Medjugorje Prayer Group

The Medjugorje Prayer Group will meet May 5 and 19 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the church. The group meets the first and third Monday of each month, excluding holidays, for prayer, song and to discuss a message from Our Lady of Medjugorje.

Dinner/Dance and Reverse Raffle

A Dinner/Dance and Reverse Raffle will take place May 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. Cost is $50 per person which includes open bar, hors d'oeuvres, dinner and chance to win a $2,000 grand prize; also $50 prizes for every 25th ticket pulled. Marian speaker/devotion series

A Marian speaker/devotion series has been planned from 7 to 7:30 p.m.: May 8, 13, 22 and 29. Guest speakers will discuss aspects of the life of the Mother of Jesus.
