Sarah MacKenzie Nairne and Todd Clifford Schafer were united in marriage Aug. 16, 2008, at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Cuyahoga Falls. The ceremony was officiated by Rev. Tom McCann of Immaculate Heart of Mary and Rev. John Schluep of First Congregational Church in Tallmadge.
The bride is the daughter of Jerry and Terri Nairne of Peninsula. The bridegroom is the son of Jack and Cheryl Schafer of Tallmadge.
Escorted by her father, the bride wore a white strapless A-line gown with beaded and silver embroidery on the bodice and satin-covered buttons down the back of the gown to the chapel-length train's edge. She carried a bouquet of cala lilies wrapped in satin and entwined with something old, her mother's first communion rosary and a white bridal hanky given to her by her grandmother, Marian Finch.
Jenn Nairne of Cleveland, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were friends Amy Esser, Tiffany Cole, Jess Kaitenbach, Beth Cooper, Melanie Gay, Bridget Gustafson, and the bridegroom's cousin, Stephanie Schafer. Jaden DeLuke, friend of the couple, was flower girl.
The bride's Godchildren, Danny and Hollie Kiblea from Rootstown, served as altar servers. Wedding colors were navy blue, black and white.
Ryan Schafer of Raleigh, N.C. served as best man. Groomsmen were brother of the bride Jeff Nairne, friends Caleb Schjeldah, Adam Fisher, Matt Trent and cousins Cory Schafer, Ben Schafer and Dominic Scott. Lane Hudson, friend of the couple, was ring bearer.
The reception took place at Hilton West in Akron. Special guests included the bridegroom's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Evans from Florida and Mr. and Mrs. Foster Schafer from Tallmadge; the bride's grandmother, Marian Finch of Ravenna; the bride's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Fredd of Livingston Manor, N.Y.; cousins of the bride, Carlene and Krystal Schebe of Morgantown, N.C.; and family friends of the bride from England, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Willis.
The bride is a 2002 graduate of Walsh Jesuit High School and 2008 graduate of John Carroll University. She is employed at Chesterfield Agency in Uniontown.
The bridegroom is a 2005 graduate of Tallmadge High School and 2005 graduate of the Ohio Fire Academy. He is fireman with the Brimfield Fire Department and a trauma medic at Akron City Hospital Emergency Room.
The couple honeymooned at Hilton Head, S.C., and now reside in Kent.
