So much snow...January 31, 2009
As a resident of the citizen of Tallmadge for 50 years, I am going to place my first complaint. As a public employee in Akron, I am required to report to school for the safety of our students even on snow days. I truly understand this ruling and I take my job as an elementary principal very seriously. However, this past week on our "snow day" I returned home after my alloted time at school (for the safety of any child who may show up) to only find my drive covered with 4 feet of snow at the entry of my driveway. I live on Kiowa Trail. The city service plows were doing their job and they were the ones that plowed me in. I asked my elderly neighbor (who was snowblowing his drive) across the street from me if he could kindly ask the gentleman who was plowing on Crimson Trail, to please drop his blade and allow me to at least enter my drive so I could contact our private plower. His comment was, "I could lose my job." Come on folks, I wasn't asking for a complete removal of snow, only the ability to let me in my drive so I could make necessary arrangements to clear the snow from my drive. At what point does the city of Tallmadge not understand a goodwill gesture, or understand the sunshine law? I'm certainly hoping that very soon folks with some intellect on public service will be running this city. Totally unacceptable. Mrs. Joan E. Thompson, Elementary Principal and resident and graduate of Tallmadge. Comments
