As a current Tallmadge City School teacher, I feel that not many parents or community members realize just how cutting edge Tallmadge City Schools are. The teachers at Tallmadge are highly qualified to teach the students using the best practices based on research. The educational strategies and techniques implemented daily by the teachers are learned from professional development opportunities and workshops. Unfortunately, these opportunities are no longer available for teachers because of the cuts in our budget.

Our district is certainly taking a turn for the worse. Without the money to receive professional development, keeping the teachers up with the current trends is virtually impossible. Money cuts are also eliminating critical services and programs for our students hampering them from becoming the best educated, well rounded, successful students they can be.

Our district truly is in a state of emergency. Recent cuts so far include: cutting 55 staff members, eliminating extra curricular activities for students, enforcing pay to participate, and terminating extra intense tutoring programs that were offered daily to students in need. All in all, Tallmadge students are not receiving the services that they deserve and need.

The teachers are working extremely hard to continue the excellent education that the Tallmadge community expects and the students deserve, but this will not be possible for too much longer if the community doesn't step up and show its support for not only the schools, but for this city!

Everyone needs to be invested in the levy on May 5th as it not only affects the students, but the local businesses and home values. Students of all ages deserve the arts, music, physical programs, and extra support services to become well rounded, more self- confident individuals. When the schools cut programs, student learning is compromised. As a result, test scores go down, property values decrease and people leave the town. This is a cyclical effect! School districts play a big role in the thought process of potential homebuyers and future businesses.

Yes, times are tough for everyone, but NOW is the time to take a stand- a stand for your community, its students, the homes and local businesses. Support Tallmadge schools and your community's future!- Vote YES on May 5th.

#3: The high school was built on a grant the state gave us. they gave us 1 million dollars to build a high school and that's it just for the high school. And it's actually cheaper to heat the new high schoole with the new technology and better materials that keep heat in and keep it cool. The old high school was built in the 50's so it isn't exactly heat/cooling efficient and the old middle school was just a wreck.

What are you talking about? Most of the parts in Fords, and Chryslers are made in China, and other foreign factories.
You, #2 and #3, were voting no before the school was built and before you drove through a parking lot.
The students of Tallmadge deserve the same support past generations had from the Tallmadge citizens. They are good kids trying to prepare for their future.
Please quit whining a few extra dollars a month. No one will lose a home due to a school levy. That extra trip to Windsor maybe. Since property values have dropped recently, you are getting a bargain.

I agree with comments 1 & 2. We have to support each other. I voted for a school levy one time, what did they do with that money? Let's just say not what they promised. Hit me once shame on you, hit me twice? Look at the High School, where do you think we live? Our average salary in Tallmadge is around $55,000. We can't afford a High School like that, what were they thinking? How will they ever heat it? Who needs the dome? Do teachers actually pay any of their health care costs? What are their salaries, they should be public record, have you tried to find them? I can't find them. Why all the secrecy?

After hearing about our recent job losses with Chrysler, GM, etc, I scanned the parking lot at a local school to see what my union brothers and sisters (teachers) drive. I was shocked to see for teacher union employees there sure were alot of Toyota's, Honda's and Nissan's in the teacher's parking areas. How does that go? If I scratch your back, you will do what?

I will vote NO. Retirees and Layoffees can not afford to pay more real estate taxes to support the schools. We were promised school tax relief and we got none. Until the Tallmadge teachers, administrators, and staff take an actual pay cut and pay more for their healthcare benefits and co-pays like the rest of the private sector, I will continue to vote NO NO NO on all school levies. It's not about the kids, it's about maintaining their lavish lifestyles while the rest of us go into foreclosure and bankruptcy. NO to the May levy !!!!
