Circleville Raceway Park " Tallmadge resident Jacob McWhirter finished up the month of May with the second race of the Great Lakes Sprint Series, a World Karting Association Divisional.

Saturday's racing included Cadet and HPV Sportsman action. Jake drove the #7 AutoZone Cadet to a sixth place qualifying position while piloting the #7 XS Energy HPV to a fifth place spot in the field. Prefinal racing led to one spot being lost in Cadet and four spots in HPV. In the Cadet final Jake was able to regain sixth place for his best finish of the season. The start of the HPV final ended the racing day as an outside kart cut down on the kart directly in front of Jake. With a nice bit of driving Jake avoided the initial contact between the karts, only to be struck in the rear axle by the now backwards sliding kart. The hard impact necessitated the use of a saw to remove the rear axle.

The series has allowed Jake's Victory Racing team to provide a Chapel service before Sunday racing. We were very happy to have Mr. Dave Sellers (Dangerous Dave) from Skyview Ranch in Millersburg, Ohio share with us about rocks and stones and how God uses stones. Well over fifty drivers and crews attended and Victory Racing distributed a case of racing themed New Testaments.

The day's racing began with Jake behind the wheel of the Seckinger Insurance Yamaha Sportsman. After a last place qualifying run in Yamaha Light, Jake made his case for a change back to his practice motor. The decision paid dividends with an eleventh place qualifying spot in Yamaha Heavy. Prefinal racing had Jake moving up to thirteenth in Light and ninth in Heavy. In the finals Jake was able to secure an eleventh in Light, after coming from the back of the field, and a tenth in Heavy. This weekend ended much better than last year's visit to Circleville when Jake was brought off by the paramedics.

Jake's next race will be the third race of the Great Lakes Sprint Series at G&J Kartway in Camden, Ohio.

Jake thanks his loyal sponsors " AutoZone of Tallmadge, McWhirter & Associates, Novus Clinic, Polymer Valley Chemicals, Redmon Funeral Home, Seckinger Insurance Agency, Spring Valley Equestrian Center, The Chapel and MMP/XS Energy Drinks.
