BYFC Champs C Division - Tallmadge Blue
November 1, 2009
What a season! Tallmadge joined the Buckeye Youth Football Conference last year. Unlike other area leagues BYFC does not restrict the participation of larger kids. BYFC is composed of like minded communities who view their youth programs as the stepping stone to successful High School squads. The C Division is composed of seven American teams and seven National teams C Division - American C Division - National It was determined that the 1st and 2nd place finishers of the American and National teams would cross bracket and face each other in a two week play off. Tallmadge Blue won a hard fought battle with Springfield in the final seconds on Saturday October 24th and Green White defeated Ellet White. This set up the final game to be played at Green Memorial Stadium at 9am October 31st. Tallmadge began their season 10 weeks earlier with a heartbreaking 6-0 loss. Since that game each week the team has made needed adjustments and never looked back dominating their opponents with an overall score of 146-22. Head Coach Don Seeker, defensive coaches Aaron McGhee and Rich Eyre with coaching staff Clark Nicholas, Dave Knutty, Joe DiVencenzo, John Anicas, and Thad Tokash worked well together all season motivating and challenging the players to work hard and get better each week. The players "bought in" to the offensive and defensive systems taught and therefore each one played an integral part in the overall success of the team. The Championship game began with Tallmadge on offense. When all was said and done the Tallmadge defense played as it had all year holding Green to minimal yardage and only two first downs. During three offensive possessions Tallmadge had a total of six first downs and approximately 120 yards before scoring and converting the extra point to take a 7-0 lead before the half. The Green coaching staff made some adjustments and Green started the second half with the ball and scored after converting three first downs. They made the extra point and so the score was tied 7-7. Tallmadge started another march down the field but after three first downs fumbled and lost the ball. Green converted one first down but then had to punt. On the third play from scrimmage Tallmadge fumbled the ball again and Green took over on the Tallmadge 25 yard line. It was up to the defense once again and on 4th down and a little over 3 yards to go Tallmadge made a huge stop up the middle and took over on downs. With 55 seconds left Tallmadge quickly gained two first downs but were unable to score before time ran out. On to overtime!! Green got the ball first. The Tallmadge defense was ready! In their typical dominant fashion they shut down the Green offense! 1st and goal from the 10. Then 2nd and goal from the 9. Then 3rd and goal from the 9. Then 4th and goal from the 8 culminating in a huge tackle in the backfield for a loss!! It was now Tallmadge's ball! No one on the Tallmadge side line doubted that they would not score. Tallmadge had not gone four and out the whole game. 1st and goal from the 10. 2nd and goal from the 6. 3rd and goal from the 1. Touchdown! Tallmadge wins the BYFC Championship! What a season! Final score. Tallmadge Blue 13. Green White 7. Comments
