Lillian L. Shaffer
Presbyterian Church member; enjoyed ocean waves, flower gardens
Lillian L. Shaffer, 94, a longtime resident of Tallmadge, died Feb. 22, 2014, at The Laurels of Worthington in Columbus.
Mrs. Shaffer retired from the B.F. Goodrich Rubber Co. after 41 years of service. She worked in the experimental division and was an integral part of making what would come to be known as "Airplane Inflatable Escape Shutes." She was also an active member of Goodyear Heights Presbyterian Church, where she was elected as one of the first women elders of the church in the 1970s. Her life of service continued after retirement as a volunteer for 25 years at Akron City Hospital (Summa). She also was a member of the Women's Board, and enjoyed being part of their annual rummage sale. Mrs. Shaffer also volunteered at Haven of Rest Ministries in Akron. The ocean waves, her flower gardens and playing with her Suzi always made her smile.
Preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Manuel "Jim" Shaffer, she is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Dean) Berry; grandson, Michael; lifelong friend and confidant, Helen; and her dog, Suzi.
A private family interment will be scheduled at the convenience of the family at Rose Hill Burial Park with a memorial service to be scheduled at a later date.
