Active in Tallmadge Little League, Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame inductee

Russell Wayne "Uncle Russ" Ilg, 70, died June 28, 2014.

Mr. Ilg was born and lived in Tallmadge most of his life and was a member of Faith Family Church in Canton.

Mr. Ilg was dedicated to Tallmadge Little League Baseball and served in all aspects of the game. He was inducted into the Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997, receiving the "Glenn Speed Bosworth Award" for 25 years of service to Northern Ohio Youth baseball. In 1991, he was honored at the 45th Annual Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., where he received The Phoenix Award for volunteer of the year -- Central Region. He was employed by Klaben Auto Stores for 18 years before he retired.

Preceded in death by his mother, Daisy; father, Bernard; sister, Donna; brother, David; and granddaughter, Brianna, he is survived by his wife and of 33 years, Julia; son, Russell; daughter, Kathy (Thom Passarelli); son, John (Desserai Starr); nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister, brothers, and a large family.

Hennessy Funeral Home in Akron was in charge of arrangements.
