James E. Irving
Korean War veteran, ran Maplecrest Golf Course for over 60 years
James E. Irving died July 26, 2014.
Born June 17, 1929, in Akron, Mr. Irving lived most of his life in Tallmadge. He and his brother Thomas ran the Maplecrest Golf Course for over 60 years. He graduated from Kent State University in 1951 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a lieutenant in the Supply Corps. He was a member of the Sandusky Yacht Club, Mogadore VFW Post 8487, Kent American Legion, Mogadore Moose and volunteered at MAPS (Military Aviation Preservation Society). He enjoyed sailing his boat "Aloha," golfing, cards, sports and history.
Preceded in death by his father, James; mother, Lelah; and brother, Thomas, Mr. Irving is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and David Sterle; friend, Sue Irving; sister-in-law, Lela Irving; niece, Linda (Dan) Martin; nephews, Brian Irving, Paul and Adam Hlivko; great-nieces, Abby and Anna Martin; and many friends.
