AKRON The Akron Heart Ball is one of the premiere American Heart Association/American Stroke Association fundraising events both locally and across the nation. The distinguished 2017 Akron Heart Ball will be Feb. 18 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Hilton Akron/Fairlawn.

The lifesaving event will shine the spotlight on the mission of building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke, and support ongoing health research and education in communities across the nation. Last year, the Heart Ball campaign raised more than $73 million nationwide, funding lifesaving research and prevention programs nationwide and right here in the Akron community.

The 17th annual Akron Heart Ball, themed "The Carnival of Life" will be co-chaired by Bill Considine, President and CEO of Akron Children's Hospital, and his wife Rebecca, and presented by Signet Jewelers. Additional support for the event is provided by Akron Children's Hospital and Summa Health. The Akron Heart Ball will bring community and philanthropic leaders together for an opportunity to raise critical funds to support research and education in the ongoing effort to help fight the nation's number one and number five leading causes of death, heart disease and stroke.

Heart Ball guests will enjoy an evening of entertainment, featuring both a live and silent auction with many items, a heart healthy dinner, and entertainment from Special Request. Again this year, the silent auction will be conducted via bidding from guests' mobile devices.

Heart Ball attendees will hear the story of a mother raising a young son born with a heart defect, a heart attack survivor committed to continuing a family legacy, and a life-saving surgery experience. Additionally, The University of Akron Head Basketball Coach Keith Dambrot will also share the story of his father's diagnosis with heart disease.

"Akron Children's Hospital is a dedicated supporter of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's mission to eradicate cardiovascular disease and stroke. We are proud partners in their lifesaving efforts to raise awareness and educate people on how we can work together to build healthier futures for ourselves, our families and our communities," said Bill Considine, president and CEOof Akron Children's Hospital.
