Staff report

The host Tallmadge boys and girls swimming teams fell to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the Suburban League after falling to Copley Dec. 5 at the Akron Health & General Wellness Center West.

The boys lost a 124-46 decision and the girls lost a 125-39 decision. Both teams placed first in one event.

The boys 200-yard freestyle relay team of Michael Kenny, Andrew Wilk, Raymond Riter and Joey Sincel won with a time of 1 minute, 47.8 seconds. Brittany DiFiore captured the Lady Blue Devils' only win in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.65). The boys' 400 freestyle relay team of Ethan Coen, Jared Graham, Dominic Cevasco and Cameron Coen placed second (4:26.4).

"It was the first home meet of the season against one of our largest competitors and our swimmers did exactly what they're trained to do: Never give up," Tallmadge head coach Ryan Miller said. "We knew going into this meet it was going to be a tough matchup due to numbers, but it's moments like the men's 400 freestyle relay that define our team. It was the last race of the night and every member of our team was behind the block cheering them on. That's what it's all about -- helping each other out and improving."
