Scores: Tallmadge girls basketball team loses heartbreaker to Green

The Tallmadge girls basketball team dropped to 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the Suburban League after losing a 42-40 decision in overtime to Green Jan. 9 at Tallmadge High School's James O. Maddox Court.

The Lady Blue Devils had a 37-29 lead with 1 minute, 47 seconds left in the fourth quarter before the Lady Bulldogs (5-7, 3-3) scored the final eight points of regulation.

Green guard Erika Rector, who finished with a game-high 13 points, tied the game at 37 with a three-pointer from the left side with 41.3 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Rector drained another three in the overtime to give the Lady Bulldogs a 40-38 lead. Tallmadge point guard Kelsey Rice tied the game at 40 with a running one-hander near the foul line, but Green scored the winning basket when Rector found forward Lexi Teodosio for an open layup with 7.5 ticks left.

The Lady Blue Devils had the final shot, but did not convert.

Guard McKenzie Black and Teodosio added nine and eight points, respectively, for the Lady Bulldogs. Rice led Tallmadge with 12 points and guard Hallie Allen finished with seven points.

Both teams had an off-night in terms of shooting and the Lady Blue Devils also had turnover and foul problems.


The Tallmadge boys bowling team improved to 5-2 on the season with a 2,410-2,360 victory over Walsh Jesuit Jan. 9 at Midway Lanes in Akron.

Nick Krainess had the high series (443) with games of 230 and 213, respectively. Brendon Haven had the high game (237). He also bowled a 198. Also rolling two games for the Blue Devils were Kody Stauffer (170-162), Ryan DeBord (186-136), Jeremy Krainess (194) and Andre Gilles (142).

The girls improved to 6-1 after posting a 2,138-1,958 win over Walsh. It was the Lady Blue Devils highest series of the season.

Madison Stock led Tallmadge with scores of 200 and 177. Also bowling two games for the Lady Blue Devils were Nicole Kreitzburg (153-188), Abby Collins (167-157) and Jennie Kiss (136-154).
