One gets the feeling that if it wasn't for bad luck, the Tallmadge wrestling team wouldn't have any luck at all this season.

A case in point can be found during the Blue Devils' tri-meet with Cloverleaf and Medina Highland Jan. 8 in Lodi.

The match was a originally scheduled to take place Jan. 10, but was changed in a bit of a last-minute move, according to Tallmadge head coach Jason Shaw.

"The match got moved from Thursday to Tuesday, which really hurt us," Shaw said. "A lot of our kids weren't available at their correct weights. I had to bump up everybody from 138 pounds to 160."

The result was two more losses for the Blue Devils as they fell to Cloverleaf 46-34 and Highland 57-18.

The Blue Devils' dual-meet record fell to 0-9 overall and 0-6 in the Suburban League.

"I'm not worried about records at this point," Shaw said. "We haven't wrestled with a full lineup for the entire season. We're finally starting to get healthy right now."

Shaw said the weight jump hurt his team most against Cloverleaf as well as the absence of 106-pounder Dallas Testa due to injury.

Tallmadge got pins from 152-pounder Joe Seisel (4 minutes, 53 seconds), 170-pounder Troy Stricker (1:48), 195-pounder Jake Weigand (3:45) and 220-pounder Travis Durago (3:16) against the Colts.

In addition, 120-pounder Tyler Severns scored a 13-5 major decision and 126-pounder Dustin McGraw won by forfeit.

Against Highland, Weigand moved up to 220 pounds and pinned his man in 29 seconds. The Blue Devils also got a pin in 2:46 from 132-pounder Josh Potak.

McGraw pulled out 2-0 win, while Stricker scored a 4-1 win against the Hornets.

Tallmadge was set to face Revere Jan. 17 and participate in the Bill Dies Memorial Tournament Jan. 18 and 19 at Firestone High School in Akron. Results of those meets were not available at press time.

"We go into the Dies with a full team, so I'm interested to see what happens," Shaw said. "Unfortunately, it's taken this long into the season to get to this point."

This week, Tallmadge is scheduled to participate in the Division II state dual tournament when it visits Akron Coventry Jan. 23 at 7 p.m.

The Blue Devils also are set to participate in the Josh Hephner Memorial Tournament Jan. 25 (4 p.m.) and 26 (9 a.m.) at Fitch High School in Austintown.
