Tallmadge boys basketball team holds off Ravenna in overtime

The Tallmadge boys basketball team improved to 6-14 after posting a 79-72 overtime victory over Ravenna Feb. 12 on the road.

The Ravens fell to 10-10.

The Blue Devils led most of the game until Ravenna took a four-point lead (63-59) late in the fourth quarter. Tallmadge beat the Ravens' press and Anthony Gotto found Damon Gidley for an uncontested layup to tie the game at 64 with 10.8 seconds left in the fourth.

Ravenna did not convert a couple of shots in the final seconds and the game went into overtime.

Gidley knocked down two free throws to give the Blue Devils a 70-68 lead with 2:33 left. Tallmadge, which converted 13-of-16 foul shots in the extra session, never lost that advantage the rest of the way.

Andrew Francesconi led the Blue Devils with 23 points and Anthony Gotto added 15 points. Also reaching double digits for Tallmadge were Gidley (13) and Bryon Cook (10). Ravenna's Jermaine Justice led all scorers with 25 points.

The Blue Devils earned a 43-40 win in the junior varsity contest. Justin Cambria led Tallmadge with 17 points.
