Duo fares well
Tallmadge graduates and Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland) seniors Matt Keen and Paul Pakan were two of five Spartans named to the 2013 All-University Athletic Association Baseball Team.
Keen has started all 173 games over the past four seasons. He will end his career as a four-time All-UAA selection with three first-team nods and a four-time UAA Championship All-Tournament Team pick.
This season, Keen is batting a team-high .371 with UAA bests of 41 runs scored, 63 hits, 17 doubles and 88 total bases. The fourth-year shortstop also has two home runs, 32 runs batted in and seven stolen bases while consistently playing stellar defense as the leader of the infield.
For his career, Keen is a .360 hitter with 12 homers, 10 triples, 55 doubles, 134 RBIs, 195 runs scored and 40 steals. He ranks first in program history in runs, tied for first in triples, second in hits, second in doubles, third in RBIs, fifth in homers and sixth in stolen bases.
In his second season after transferring in 2011-12, Pakan is batting .348 with a team high-tying four homers and a team-best 38 RBIs. A second-team All-UAA pick last season, Pakan has earned all-tournament team honors in each of his two years as a career .336 batter with 11 homers, 67 RBIs and 12 steals. After playing in center field for all 44 games last season and the first 14 of 2013.
