It was a two-year struggle.
Finally, it's over.
The Tallmadge girls soccer team won its first Suburban League game in two years after posting a 1-0 victory over Nordonia Sept. 18 at Boliantz Stadium in Macedonia.
With the win, the Lady Blue Devils improved to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the league. The Lady Knights dropped to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in the league.
Nordonia controlled possession and had significantly more chances to score than Tallmadge did.
However, the Lady Blue Devils finally got a ball in the net when Alyssa Garbinsky scored on a breakaway after receiving a pass from the left side from Amanda Kilway. The goal took place with 3 minutes, 51 seconds left in the game.
There was some bad news for Tallmadge.
Starting goalkeeper Lynn Tucci was forced to leave the game because of a knee injury after colliding with a Lady Knights' player just three minutes into the game.
Tallmadge goalkeeper Annie Dreschler took Tucci's spot and finished with nine saves.
Nordonia had a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Lady Knights' goalkeeper Ashley Allen made two saves in the nets.
