It was the definition of a bang-bang play -- and it was good enough to send the Tallmadge boys soccer team to the sectional finals.
The Blue Devils scored just minutes into the first overtime to send the Blue Devils to a 3-2 victory over Field Oct. 12 in Mogadore.
It also earned Tallmadge a date with third-seeded Akron Archbishop Hoban in a Kent Division II sectional final title game. Play is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in Akron.
In the game's 84th minute, the Blue Devils set up for a corner-kick opportunity.
Tallmadge senior forward Nate Todd fired off a shot toward the middle of the goal box for teammate Keegan Williams, who elevated and fired a header past Falcons' keeper Ka'Imi Green to give his team the dramatic victory.
Field had a 6-5 edge in shots on goal, but corner kicks were how the Blue Devils stamped their ticket to face Hoban.
With the game tied at 1-1 in the 45th minute, Tallmadge scored on a nearly identical play. After a Cole Harvey corner kick was deflected out of bounds, Harvey set up once more for another corner. This time, Harvey's shot was headed in by Schertzinger, who out-jumped the Falcons defense to give Tallmadge a 2-1 lead.
Field rode a wave of emotion to even force the contest into overtime as the Falcons played much of the second half with just 10 players following a red card.
Despite that personnel handicap, Field junior striker Dom Walker managed to tie the game in the 78th minute when he shook off two Blue Devils' defenders to fire off a game-tying goal past Tallmadge keeper Chris Roy.
Yellow cards came fast and furious for both sides during regulation as the nearby rivals played a physical postseason game.
