The Tallmadge girls basketball team improved to 12-5 overall and 5-5 in the Suburban League after earning a 56-53 victory over Nordonia at James O. Maddox Court.
The Lady Knights rallied from an 11-point deficit (47-36) in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 53 when Raquel Pintz knocked down a 3-pointer with 37.1 seconds left.
But the Lady Blue Devils answered on the very next possession.
Kelsey Rice found a wide-open Kirsten Lightel in the left corner. Lightel buried a 3 to give Tallmadge a 56-53 advantage with 21.8 seconds left.
Nordonia (12-5, 6-5) misfired on a couple of 3-point attempts and did not get a shot off during its final possession.
Tallmadge led most of the game and had a 19-8 edge early in the second quarter.
Thanks to a 7-0 run early in the third period, the Lady Knights cut the Lady Blue Devils' lead to 31-29.
However, Tallmadge responded with a run of its own to build its advantage back up to double digits.
Joanna Catalano led the Lady Blue Devils with a game-high and career-high 23 points on 11-of-15 shooting.
Mary Ryan added 14 points for Tallmadge and Rice finished with 12 rebounds and seven assists.
Pintz came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points for Nordonia. She made four 3-pointers. Meghan Reilly added 12 points for the Lady Knights.
The Lady Blue Devils also posted a 21-20 victory in the junior varsity team. The Tallmadge JV squad, which has won six consecutive games, improved to 7-8.
