The Tallmadge girls basketball team has reached a district final contest for the first time since 1999.
The second-seeded Lady Blue Devils improved to 16-8 after posting a convincing 61-42 victory over fifth-seeded Akron Kenmore in a Division II district semifinal contest Feb. 24 at Lake High School in Uniontown.
With the win, Tallmadge is set to play the Akron Archbishop Hoban-Norton winner in a district title game Feb. 28 at 7 p.m.
The Lady Blue Devils pulled away in the third quarter.
They outscored the Lady Cardinals (16-9) 21-10 and never looked back.
Mary Ryan had nine of her game-high 18 points in the quarter for Tallmadge.
Teammate Kelsey Rice had her typical dazzling all-around game with 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three blocked shots.
Joanna Catalano and Kirsten Lightel each added 10 points apiece for the Lady Blue Devils.
Whiaunna Jeffries led Kenmore with 15 points and teammate Q'deare Dix finished with 13 points.
