Tallmadge boys hoops team wins thriller against Revere to advance

The host Tallmadge boys basketball team won a 59-56 overtime thriller against Revere in the opening round of the Stow-Munroe Falls Division II sectional-district tournament.

The game took place Feb. 26 at James O. Maddox  Court.

With the win, the fifth-seeded Blue Devils (13-9) are scheduled to entertain sixth-seeded Streetsboro in a sectional title contest March 1 at 7 p.m.

Facing elimination, Tallmadge trailed 55-52 and had the ball after a time-out with 6.3 seconds left.

Andrew Francesconi has his number called and came off a screen in the paint and another pick near the 3-point arc when Justin Cambria passed him the ball beyond the arc with the clock winding down.

Francesconi banked in an off-balance 3-point bomb as the gym erupted to force overtime at 55-55.

In the extra session, a pair of Colten Stricker free throws with 1:15 left gave the Blue Devils the lead for good at 57-55.

Francesconi hit two free throws with 6.9 ticks left to make it 59-56 and seal the win as Revere never got off a potential game-tying 3-point shot.

Pacing Tallmadge was Francesconi with 23 points. Stricker had 13, while Cambria netted eight points and three steals.

Revere (9-14) was led by Jordan Holtkamp's 23 points and four assists.
