The Tallmadge girls basketball team's stellar season came to an end March 4 at Ontario High School.
The Lady Blue Devils lost a 58-38 decision to Bellevue in a Division II regional semifinal contest.
With the loss, Tallmadge, which reached regional play for the first time since the 1998-99 team advanced to the state semifinals, finished 17-9 on the season. The Lady Red improved to 22-4.
Bellevue outscored the Lady Blue Devils 18-4 in the first quarter and never looked back.
The Lady Red took control, thanks to its stingy fullcourt pressure and stellar passing.
Tallmadge cut its deficit to 49-34 and had a chance to trim it to 12 late in the final seconds of the third quarter.
But senior point guard Kelsey Rice's 3-pointer hit the back of the iron at the buzzer.
The Lady Blue Devils never got closer.
Forward Makala Daniel led Bellevue with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Guards Whitney Schalk and Carly Santoro each added 12 points for the Lady Red. Santoro also had four steals.
Senior forward Mary Ryan led Tallmadge with 13 points. It was the final game Ryan, Rice and senior guard Kirsten Lightel.
