Tallmadge baseball team to honor cancer victims

Published:

Tallmadge High School and Hudson High School played in a game 10 years ago at Hudson High School to raise money to donate toward the continuous fight against cancer.
Last month, Tallmadge athletic staff member Bobbi Hindel passed away from this disease.
Bobbi was the wife of Tallmadge assistant baseball coach Jim Hindel and the mother of Lindsey Hindel and Cory Hindel, who is a 2005 Tallmadge graduate.
The first pitch April 25 is expected to be thrown by Lindsey Hindel and received by Cory Hindel, a former catcher with the Blue Devils and the Kent State University baseball team.
On April 26, Cody Montecavo, a seventh-grade student at Miller South Middle School in Akron, is expected to be the honorary recipient. Cody also is battling cancer and is expected to throw out the first pitch April 26.
Each team will pay $100 toward every game it is scheduled and pay for one umpire for each game if the umpires do no donate the money back.
Three game balls are needed for each game. Each team also is encouraged to donate $100 to Montecavo.
All checks can be made out to Tallmadge Baseball.
Last year’s recipient was Alex Loftin, who played at Stow-Munroe Falls High School and the University of Akron. Loftin received a check of $1,000.
